Monofilament fishing line
Monofilament fishing line is essentially made from a single strand of nylon and is very flexible and easy to use, it can be used in virtually any fishing situation.
Mono has a very low memory, memory is how much line retains kinks and twists. High memory lines kink and twist quite easily, but mono is low memory making it easy to use.
Mono has good shock strength, it will absorb the shock of casting a heavy weight or the continued shocks while you try and land a fish.
Mono lines tend to have a larger diameter than other types of line, have a slow sink rate and are available in different colours.
Mono also has very good knot strength, some lines are considerably weakened by being tied in a knot, but mono is one of the best.
Monofilament makes a good general purpose fishing line, used by experienced, anglers but because it is so forgiving it is extremely good for beginners too.
