Fishing today at Decoy Lake, I spent the first hour talking to everyone else fishing, you can learn so much from other anglers I feel it’s worth the effort. This trip was mainly to shoot footage for my next “How To” film which will be about waggler fishing. Not a brilliant day for it with wind and quite a bit of rain, but I was able to get all the footage I needed.
With chatting, filming and sheltering from the rain, I only got about half an hour of fishing before packing up. I have to say that float fishing is a favourite method of mine, I had my waggler gear set-up, so waggler it was. The only bait I had with me was maggots, so I started by loose feeding a few. As so often the case, feeding the fish is as important as how you fish. With maggots I tend to feed little and often and increase the feed as needed. I had to fish well over depth because of the drift, but the fish in Decoy always seem to prefer a static bait. I only caught about six fish including a little Perch, but this trip was more about filming, so I don’t mind.
